The Responsible Flushing Alliance (RFA) believes effective “Do Not Flush” labeling and consumer education are the real solutions to decreasing the volume of non-flushable items accumulating in sewer systems. By properly labeling flushable and non-flushable wipes, and adopting responsible flushing habits, we can help solve the problems negatively impacting municipal wastewater systems.
To do this, we must:
- Educate consumers about flushable wipes and how to tell the differences between various types of wipes, as well as how to dispose of other hygiene and personal-use products properly.
- Commit to making flushability standards clear and actionable.
- Advocate for education and guidance about proper disposal of products that should not be flushed down the toilet.
- Ensure policy effecting the health of our homes and sewer systems is aligned with the latest science and facts for the disposal of both flushable and non-flushable products.
